Included Services

  • Medication Support: ED medications can help you achieve and maintain an erection, but they won’t address any underlying causes. We recommend consulting a doctor for a full assessment to explore any root causes. 🩺

  • Medication Safety: Disclose all medications you’re currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, and recreational substances. This ensures we can prescribe safely, as ED medications can interact with other drugs. 💊🌿

Medical Information

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition where a man finds it difficult to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for penetrative sex. It’s a common issue that many men experience occasionally, especially when tired, stressed, or after consuming too much alcohol. For some, however, it can become a recurring problem. ED can occur at any age but is more common with aging, due to various physical causes, and may negatively impact self-confidence and relationships, which can further worsen symptoms.

Approximately 50% of men between ages 40 and 70 experience ED at some point.

ED can result from physical and psychological causes or a mix of both.

Physical Causes:

  • Vascular Issues: The primary cause of ED is often the narrowing of blood vessels, which limits blood flow to the penis. This is frequently linked to diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, particularly in men over 40.
  • Early Warning Sign: ED can signal cardiovascular issues, so regular health check-ups are recommended.
  • Other Physical Causes:
    • Obesity
    • Hormonal imbalances
    • Smoking, alcohol, and drug use (long-term or heavy use)
    • Certain medications (e.g., steroids)
    • Nerve damage, as seen in conditions like Multiple Sclerosis

Psychological Causes:

  • Stress, Anxiety, and Depression: These mental health conditions can lead to ED. Relationship issues may also play a role.

If caused by physical factors, symptoms often develop gradually. If psychological, symptoms may appear suddenly but improve as mental health stabilizes.

This ED service is ideal if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Are male
  • Experience difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection

This service may not be suitable if you:

  • Are under 18 or female
  • Have had ED since the onset of sexual activity
  • Have been advised by a doctor to avoid sexual activity
  • Have had a heart attack or stroke in the last six months
  • Have specific heart issues, such as unstable angina, uncontrolled high or low blood pressure, irregular heart rhythm, heart failure, valve problems, or cardiomyopathy
  • Suffer from serious liver or kidney disease
  • Have certain vision or blood disorders (e.g., optic nerve damage, retinitis pigmentosa, sickle cell anemia, leukemia)
  • Have a blood clotting disorder, penile deformity, or take ‘poppers’ (amyl nitrate)

Some medications may also interact with ED treatments; ensure to disclose all substances you’re taking.

We offer a variety of ED medications, both branded and generic, as clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are issued for six months, with up to 16 tablets monthly, to be taken as directed.

ED medications work by relaxing blood vessels in the penis, enhancing blood flow to help achieve and maintain an erection when aroused. Different medications may vary in their timing and duration, and adjusting the dose or timing may be necessary to achieve the best results.

If no improvement occurs after taking the medication on four to six occasions, consult with us for further advice.

These medications are usually well-tolerated, especially at standard doses. Side effects may include:

  • Headaches, dizziness
  • Flushing
  • Stuffy nose
  • Upset stomach/indigestion
  • Visual disturbances (e.g., blurred vision or sensitivity to light)

If side effects occur, consider stopping the medication and consult your doctor.

You can take several steps to help alleviate ED symptoms:

  • Limit Alcohol: Stick to under 17 units per week
  • Stop Smoking: Smoking narrows blood vessels throughout the body
  • Healthy Weight: ED is more common with excess weight, and weight loss can help
  • Exercise Regularly: Physical activity boosts blood flow and overall health
  • Manage Stress: Find ways to reduce daily stress for better mental and physical health

When completing the questionnaire, be thorough in disclosing all medications, supplements, or recreational drugs, as ED medications can interact with certain drugs. For safety:

  • Do not exceed one tablet per 24 hours.
  • Avoid combining different ED medications.

Remember, ED differs from premature ejaculation, where ejaculation occurs too quickly. For that, we offer a separate premature ejaculation service.

This overview is meant to provide clear, reliable guidance on using ED treatment safely and effectively.
